Workshop on High Potential Incidents

Near misses are opportunities to learn without the consequence of what might have happened. Yet many organisations struggle with how to either promote a culture of near miss reporting or how to make real changes from near miss lessons. The IPLOCA HSE Committee's goal with a one day workshop was to engage HSE managers and executives of the IPLOCA membership in this discussion.

Dianne Stober, Managing Partner of Cognitive Change Concepts, Inc. and a licensed psychologist, addressed the topic. Dianne has 20 year's experience applying psychological concepts to improving individuals' lives and organisational performance.

Attendees had the opportunity to consider safety challenges from a cognitive-behavioral perspective to understand how our mindsets regarding near misses will influence actions we take, both as leaders and as individuals within our organisational safety cultures. Attendees also discussed how to influence their own and others' mindsets and take advantage of available leadership opportunities to use near miss reporting most effectively.
